“There comes a time, when we heed a certain call, when the world must come together as one”.
An unprecedented event occurred the evening of January 28, 1985, the recording of the global phenomenon “We Are The World”. This song had a huge impact on me as it carried a powerful message of unity, compassion and hope. The song evokes feelings of nostalgia for a simpler time, when the world was brought together by the power of a song. The theme of coming together to help those in need has had a lasting impression and as I look back after 39 years, I am reflecting on how so much in my life has come full circle. I created Shopping Anyway as a way to genuinely make an impact on the world by creating a platform to help nonprofits, service organizations and the like make an even bigger impact on those they serve by making contributions from donors and contributors easier. I view Shopping Anyway as a “Contribution Revolution” and a way to have people who want to help others have access to a convenient, seamless platform to do it. People are struggling AND people want to help. I hope that those who contribute food, basic necessities, time or money via the Shopping Anyway platform get a true sense of satisfaction and internal reward by knowing that they are indeed making a difference in the lives of others. Whether it’s a case of water, a package of undershirts, a box of diapers, volunteer time spent at a food drive, or a monetary contribution to a capital campaign, please know that you are making a difference and a lot of people helping just a little bit, helps a lot.
